An urban county of about 210,000 residents and spread across 26 square miles, Arlington VA is located across the Potomac River from Washington DC. It is well connected with Washington DC by roads, railways and the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Founded in the early 1800s as Alexandria County, the General Assembly of Virginia changed its name to Arlington County in 1920. It is also the smallest self-governing county in the US.
